Essential #10: Collaboration With Families in Promoting Literacy
MARESA Teachers,
As 2020 draws to a close, we are reminded that through collaboration and teamwork, we have persevered through challenge and change...beyond what any could have predicted. Now more than ever, you have promoted literacy in the homes of your students and enlisted parents to do more than ever before. Could these new bridges formed be a silver lining of a difficult time?
Essential 10 calls on teachers from PreK-5 to support families in promoting independent reading, supporting homework, incorporating literacy strategies into everyday life (cooking, communicating, traveling, etc.), and more! Please use this month’s edition to do just that! Our December Edition of the MARESA Literacy Monthly is our gift to you. We have provided several “Grab and Go’s” for you to share with families with the ultimate goal of supporting the literacy lives of children. We hope that you find these resources helpful!

A Collection of Winter Reads: Digital Text and AudioBook Collections
There is an abundance of digital texts at our fingertips! These resources were found by searching for texts using the eBook K-8 Collection found on the Michigan eLibrary site. Keep it contained in Google Slides...simply paste an image of the book cover and link it to the permalink from the PDF version of the book. Add a small description of the story and voila! Access to digital text is granted! Another option is to do it Bitmoji style...just add your Bitmoji to personalize. Both formats allow students to make choices in book selection as well. Cheers to motivating young readers and giving them digital text options!
